The Problems From The Eyes Of Tourists

Valued Members, Valued Manavgat Residents;

Statistical surveys and researches display the current issues with numbers and they have significant roles on shaping the prospective activities.

Having institutionalized strongly in a short period of time. The chamber, with a motto “Manavgat Growing With Economy”, contributes to our town’s social nad economical developments. Besides the chamber has recently begun to tkae these surveys on its agenda. The chamber, in this regard, carried out a research titled “The Research Of Workshop Inventory” in order to record the inventory information of commercial enterprises in Manavgat last year. In addition to this it took part in the statistical research project titled “Side-Manavgat Customer Analyse 2007 On Way To Trademarking”. This research was carried out by Mediterranean University Manavgat Vocational High School. This research was supported by the following institutions apart from the chamber: Manavgat Rotary Club Association, Side-Manavgat Tourism Managers Club Association, Manavgat Craftmen and Artisans Association.

It was the target of the research to identify the demographic features of the tourists visiting Side and Manavgat, their impression of the region, their suggestions and complaints with the application of questionary papers thereby disclosing the current situation. Teh aim was, then in the lights of information, to determine the fact which will be useful for the trademark and image attached to the region. Meanwhile it was also aimed to determine the urgent problems and to develop solution to them. Thus, the situation is identified and there is a long time outlook.

The basic benefits of the research may be summed up as followed:

- To build up a long term cooperation among the tourism shareholders in Manavgat-Side ( tourism managements, tourism organizations, educational institutions, public accounts, non-governmental organization, civil society)
- To traditionalize this research titled “The Survey Of Tourist Profile”
- To record detailed information about domestic and foreign tourists visiting Side and Manavgat
- To create a destination identity and trademark specific for Side-Manavgat region
- To begin for advertisement, department of market, cooperative marketing activities
- To encourage the trademark with a positive region and country image
- To contribute for the development of tourism industry

Approximately 5000 (4588) papers were taken into consideration in terms of research. According to the results it was German tourists the most with the rank % 63 visiting Side-Manavgat region. Russian tourists is the second with % 14, Dutch tourists the third with % 5. The main reason of foreign tourists for choosing Side-Manavgat region with % 26,57 is sea, sand, sun.




The results of this research is also vital in terms of dealing with the problems of the region. Our problems are as followed from the tourists perspective:

- There is no price information on articles.
- The attitudes of salespersons are quite irritating.
- There is no complaint nor consultation offices.
- Inefficiency of pathways and night lighting
- Suspicion of the salespersons honesty
- The public WC’s are not clean enough
- City planning and architectural structuring are not enjoyed.

These results clearly indicate the urgent preparation in Manavgat-Side region on way to trademarking.

Considering the reality that quality and quest satisfaction under % 100 is not sufficient in today’s “rivalry” mentality, it is vital that these problems should be found solution regarding the future of tourism. Besides we are supposed to deal with these issues in order to keep the trademark and image. The later the solutions are found, the more there will be problems and it will be harder then. To ignore the problems concludes in loo for our country and region. Why shall we lose, while there is winning? Let’s altogether solve these problems that seem to be obstacles for our country, region, torists, all sectors.

Socially and economically strong and developed Manavgat is our common target. We will perpetuate our researches in this regard. The Chamber, The Management, The Functional Commission will focus on this issue, because we feel and bear the responsibility of Manavgat and Manavgat residents on our shoulders.
